Music, scenery, atmosphere, and joyous people are an irresistible mix when the music is that of none other than the great classical masters. On this second annual fundraising tour, Dr. Mary Byrne of the Victoria Conservatory of Music will guide lovers of great and beautiful music and history through the heartland of Europe from Berlin to Budapest in search of classical

music’s roots, his inspirations, and the essence of some of the most perfect music ever conceived.

An active teacher, adjudicator, lecturer, recorded artist, and published author, Mary is internationally respected for her wide-ranging work as a flute-in-hand musician and teacher. With the Victoria Conservatory of Music, Camosun College, and her own Piccolino Studio, she boasts thriving studios and classrooms of students at all ages and stages of musical interest. She is a regular performer with the Victoria Symphony. Without borders or boundaries, she eagerly performs chamber, solo, and small orchestra music for the full flute family. She earned B.Mus. in Flute Performance and Music Education and M.Mus. in Flute Performance degrees from the University of Michigan, and a Ph.D. in Musicology from the University of Victoria, specializing in pedagogy and performance practice of the flutists at the Paris Conservatoire during the 19th and 20th centuries. The Bach Tour is in benefit of the Victoria Conservatory of Music (VCM). By participating in this extraordinary experience you are supporting the musical life and learning of the VCM community.

Depart Victoria
Depart Victoria (May 13, 10:55am) and arrive in Berlin May 14th (11:25am) via Vancouver and Frankfurt

May 14 - 174 Nights

Enjoy a welcome dinner along with 3 days of touring beautiful Berlin. Enjoy a half day walking tour with lunch at the Reichstag/ Brandenburg Gate area; another half day walking tour to Berliner Dom/ Museum Island with lunch and possible organ tour/concert. A full day Potsdam/Court of musician-King Frederich the Great at Sanssouci with lunch along with two and a half free days to explore. You will also be experiencing one scheduled group concert: recommendations given for additional afternoon or evening concerts. BYO—3 dinners; concerts added; free-day activities.

May 18 - 19

Enjoy lunch upon arrival to Leipzig (from Berlin 2h 20m). Partake in the Leipzig Music Walk with lunch, you will also have free time where you can attend an optional group concert. BYO—2 dinners; concerts added; free-day activities

May 20 - 21

Travel from Leipzig (1h 30m) to Dresden with lunch upon arrival. You will have a day and a half of touring cultural sites. Along with a possible Elber River Cruise with dinner and one scheduled group concert: recommendations given for additional afternoon or evening concerts. BYO—2 dinners (or 1 lunch, 1 dinner if dinner river cruise); concerts added; free-day activities.

May 22

You will travel 2h 55m from Dresden to Wroclaw with lunch upon arrival. Spend half a day touring and spend the rest exploring the culture of Wroclaw. There is a possible scheduled group concert or recommendations given for afternoon or evening concerts.BYO—1 dinner; concerts added; free-day activities

May 23 - 24

Start the day by travelling to Kraków (2h 55m) with lunch upon arrival. Spend half a day touring cultural sites of Old Town, and another half day on a guided museum tour. One scheduled group concert: recommendations given for additional afternoon or evening concerts. BYO—2 dinners; concerts added; free-day activities

May 25 - 28

A full day of travel to Budapest with a lunch and touring stop at Banská Bystrica (6h 11m). Immerse yourself with a half-day walking/coach tour of the music sites Buda with lunch and another half-day walking/coach tour music sites Pest with lunch. Also enjoy one scheduled group concert: recommendations given for additional afternoon or evening concerts and a farewell dinner (possible Danube cruise with music). BYO—3 dinners; 1 lunch; concerts added; free-day activities.

Depart Budapest
Depart Budapest (7:55am) and arrive in Victoria (1:20pm) via Frankfurt and Vancouver
